Aufgabe

Task
Development of a 3-D communication concept of the contents of the NS-Dokumentationszentrum.

Konzept

Concept
The role of Munich as the capital of the Nationalsozialismus is the pivotal content of the Documentation Centre. The history of Munich should not be treated as a finished chapter but as a process, which is the fundament of contemporary life.
This story is told by superposing five different layers:
1 The historical incident
2 People
3 Locations
4 Everyday life
5 Classification of the incident into contemporary history.
The question raised is: What that’s to me?
The concept of superposing the different layers of history was the basis for communicating the content. The visitor should be able to pull each layer out of the display, but at the same time seeing the superposition of the ingredients of history: The historical incident, the biography of people and the location where the incident happened. So the inhabitants of Munich can still find the location today.
To strengthen the interconnection between the content of the documentation and the city, we suggested a mobile App which guides the visitor to the real locations of the historical incidents.

The Building
The building stands on the same site as the former “Braunes Haus”, which was the headquarter of the NSDAP. From the new building the visitor has views on to the Königsplatz which was a central location for the history of National Socialism in Munich. The views out of the building intertwine with the content of the documentation centre.
